How Can I Be Saved? (6 DEVOS)

1. WhAT IS SALVATION?

SALVATION TO EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."

- Romans 1:16

OFFERS SALVATION TO ALL PEOPLE

"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."

- Titus 2:11-12

TO WHOM GOD WOULD MAKE KNOWN HIS SALVATION

"The one is addressed generally to all intelligent creatures, and is therefore accessible to all men; the other is addressed to a special class of sinners, to whom God would make known His salvation. The one has in view to meet and supply the natural need of creatures for knowledge of their God; the other to rescue broken and deformed sinners from their sin and its consequences."

- B. B. Warfield (1851–1921) Professor of Theology Princeton Seminary

SALVATION IS FROM OUR SIDE A CHOICE

"Salvation is from our side a choice, from the divine side it is a seizing upon, an apprehending, a conquest by the Most High God. Our "accepting" and "willing" are reactions rather than actions. The right of determination must always remain with God."

- A. W. Tozer (1897-1963) American Pastor and Teacher

SALVATION READY TO BE REVEALED AT THE LAST TIME

"Who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."

- 1 Peter 1:5

WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION WITH FEAR AND TREMBLING

"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

- Philippians 2:12

SALVATION IS ALL OF GRACE

"From the Word of God I gather that damnation is all of man, from top to bottom, and salvation is all of grace, from first to last. He that perishes chooses to perish; but he that is saved is saved because God has chosen to save him."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

THERE IS SALVATION IN NO ONE ELSE

"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

- Acts 4:12

HIS GLORY IS GREAT THROUGH YOUR SALVATION

"His glory is great through Your salvation, Splendor and majesty You place upon him."

- Psalm 21:5

KNOWLEDGE OF THE WAY OF SALVATION

"If in preaching the gospel you substitute your knowledge of the way of salvation for confidence in the power of the gospel, you hinder people from getting to reality."

- Oswald Chambers (1874–1917) Scottish Evangelist and Teacher

PERFECT AND COMPLETE SALVATION OF GOD

"To be freed from sin is not a difficult task when viewed in the light of the finished, perfect and complete salvation of God. A believer must proceed to learn the more advanced and perhaps more formidable and deeper lesson of abhorring his life."

- Watchman Nee (1903-1972) Chinese Church Leader

YOU ARE MY GOD AND MY SALVATION

"Make me know Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day."

- Psalm 25:4-5

NOW IS THE ACCEPTED TIME, THE DAY OF SALVATION

"And now let me address all of you, high and low, rich and poor, one with another, to accept of mercy and grace while it is offered to you; Now is the accepted time, now is the day of salvation; and will you not accept it, now it is offered unto you?"

- George Whitefield (1714-1770) Church of England Evangelist

MY HEART REJOICES IN YOUR SALVATION

“How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.”

- Psalm 13:1-6

OUR GOD IS THE GOD FROM WHOM COMETH SALVATION

“Our God is the God from whom cometh salvation. God is the Lord by whom we escape death! Into Thy hands I commit my spirit; God of truth, Thou hast redeemed me!”

- Martin Luther (1483-1546) German Priest and theology professor initiated the Protestant Reformation.

GODLY SORROW WORKETH REPENTANCE TO SALVATION

“Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”

- 2 Corinthians 7:9-10

WITH LONG LIFE LET HIM SEE MY SALVATION

“With a long life I will satisfy him and let him see My salvation.”

- Psalm 91:16

FOR NOW SALVATION IS NEARER THAN WE BELIEVED

"Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed."

- Romans 13:11

MAKE A JOYFUL NOISE TO THE ROCK OF MY SALVATION

"Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods."

 - Psalm 95:1-6

THE SOLE ANCHOR OF YOUR SALVATION

"Our assurance, our glory, and the sole anchor of our salvation are that Christ the Son of God is ours, and we in turn are in him sons of God and heirs of the Kingdom of Heaven, called to the hope of eternal blessedness by God's grace, not by our worth."

- John Calvin (1509-1564) French Protestant Reformer

THE THIEF HAD NAILS THROUGH BOTH HANDS

"The thief had nails through both hands, so that he could not work; and a nail through each foot, so that he could not run errands for the Lord; he could not lift a hand or a foot toward his salvation, and yet Christ offered him the gift of God; and he took it. Christ threw him a passport, and took him into Paradise."

- D. L. Moody (1837-1899) American Evangelist, Teacher and Preacher

LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD OF OUR SALVATION

And it will be said in that day, “Behold, this is our God for whom we have waited that He might save us. This is the Lord for whom we have waited; Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”

- Isaiah 25:9

REFUSAL TO TAKE THE CUP OF SALVATION

"Surely scripture is right when it makes the sin of sins that unbelief, which is at bottom nothing else than a refusal to take the cup of salvation. Surely no sharper grief can be inflicted upon the Spirit of God than when we leave His gifts neglected and unappropriated."

- Alexande MacCleran

THE LORD IS MY LIGHT AND MY SALVATION

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"

- Psalm 27:1

YOUR FAITHFULNESS AND YOUR SALVATION

"I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation."

- Psalm 40:10

FIT TO BRING THEM INTO THEIR SALVATION

"What we do see is Jesus, who was given a position “a little lower than the angels”; and because he suffered death for us, he is now “crowned with glory and honor.” Yes, by God’s grace, Jesus tasted death for everyone. God, for whom and through whom everything was made, chose to bring many children into glory. And it was only right that he should make Jesus, through his suffering, a perfect leader, fit to bring them into their salvation."

- Hebrews 2:9-10

A LOUD VOICE IN HEAVEN, SAYING, "NOW IS COME SALVATION"

I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now is come the salvation, the power, and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ; for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night."

- Revelation 12:10

SALVATION IS A DEFINITE PROCESS

"Salvation is a definite process. If a man refuse to submit himself to that process, clearly he cannot have the benefits of it. "As many as received Him to them gave He power to become the sons of God." He does not avail himself of this power. It may be mere carelessness or apathy. Nevertheless the neglect is fatal. He cannot escape because he will not."

- Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Evangelist, Biologist

TO OBTAIN SALVATION BY OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

"For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.:

- 1 Thessalonians 5:9

THE ENEMY OF OUR SALVATION

"The enemy of our salvation especially strives to draw our heart and mind away from God when we are about to serve Him, and endeavours to adulterously attach our heart to something irrelevant. Be always, every moment, with God, especially when you pray to Him. If you are inconstant, you will fall away from life, and will cast yourself into sorrow and straitness."

- John of Kronstadt (1829–1909) Russian Orthodox Archpriest

THAT THEY ALSO MAY OBTAIN SALVATION

"Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory."

- 2 Timothy 2:10

WHEN WE FIRST TRUST IN CHRIST FOR SALVATION

"There are two 'courts' we must deal with: the court of God in Heaven and the court of conscience in our souls. When we first trust in Christ for salvation, God's court is forever satisfied. Never again will a charge of guilt be brought against us in Heaven. Our consciences, however, are continually pronouncing us guilty. That is the function of conscience. Therefore, we must by faith bring the verdict of conscience into line with the verdict of Heaven. We do this by agreeing with our conscience about our guilt, but then reminding it that our guilt has already been borne by Christ."

- Jerry Bridges (1929–2016) Evangelical Christian Author

IN SALVATION WE ARE NOT ONLY SAVED FROM SIN

"In salvation we are not only saved from sin and damnation; we are saved unto holiness. The goal of redemption is holiness."

- R. C. Sproul (1939-2017) American Reformed Theologian

IT IS FOR YOUR COMFORT AND SALVATION

"If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer."

- 2 Corinthians 1:6

FOR YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN THE GOD OF YOUR SALVATION

"For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge; therefore, though you plant pleasant plants and sow the vine-branch of a stranger."

- Isaiah 17:10

THE LONGSUFFERING OF OUR LORD IS SALVATION

"And consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked."

- 2 Peter 3:15-17

TO BRING SALVATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE WAITING FOR HIM

"So Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him."

- Hebrews 9:28

On Salvation..

NOW IS THE DAY OF SALVATION

"For he says, “In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation."

- 2 Corinthians 6:2

THE GOSPEL OF YOUR SALVATION

"In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise."

- Ephesians 1:13

SALVATION IS OPEN TO ALL

"Since no man is excluded from calling upon God the gate of salvation is open to all. There is nothing else to hinder us from entering, but our own unbelief."

- John Calvin (1509-1564) French Theologian

THE GOD OF MY SALVATION

"O Lord, the God of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before You.

- Psalm 88:1

SALVATION COMES THROUGH A CROSS

"Salvation comes through a cross and a crucified Christ."

- Andrew Murray (1794-1866) Scottish Missionary, Writer

HE OFFERS SALVATION

"I take it that the highest proof of Christ's power is not that He offers salvation, not that He bids you take it if you will, but that when you reject it, when you hate it, when you despise it, He has a power whereby he can change your mind, make you think differently from your former thoughts, and turn you from the error of your ways."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

THIS WILL INSURE SALVATION

"Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you."

- 1 Timothy 4:16

AS TO THIS SALVATION

"As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow."

- 1 Peter 1:10-11

TO ETERNAL SALVATION

"God preordained, for His own glory and the display of His attributes of mercy and justice, a part of the human race, without any merit of their own, to eternal salvation, and another part, in just punishment of their sin, to eternal damnation.”

- John Calvin (1509-1564) French Theologian

MY SALVATION FOR BE FOREVER

“Lift up your eyes to the sky, then look to the earth beneath; For the sky will vanish like smoke, And the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants will die in like manner; But My salvation will be forever, And My righteousness will not wane."

- Isaiah 51:6

SALVATION IS FROM THE LORD

"But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the Lord.”

- Jonah 2:9

SALVATION THROUGH SANTIFICATION

"For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in wickedness. But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth."

- 2 Thessalonians 2:11-13

THE NATURE OF CHRIST'S SALVATION

"The nature of Christ's salvation is woefully misrepresented by the present-day evangelist. He announces a Savior from Hell rather than a Savior from sin. And that is why so many are fatally deceived, for there are multitudes who wish to escape the Lake of fire who have no desire to be delivered from their carnality and worldliness."

- A. W. Pink (1886-1952) English Bible Teacher

WHO SHALL BE HEIRS OF SALVATION

"Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"

- Hebrews 1:4

CONFIDENT HOPE OF SALVATION

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”

- Romans 5:3-5

BEGINS HIS JOURNEY SALVATION

"If thou wouldst be justified, acknowledge thine injustice. He that confesses his sin, begins his journey toward salvation. He that is sorry for it, mends his pace. He that forsakes it, is at his journey's end."

- Francis Quarles (1592–1644) English Christian Poet Author, Book of Emblems

TAKE UP THE HELMET OF SALVATION

“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

- Ephesians 6:16-18

SALVATION WITHOUT REGRET

"For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death."

- 2 Corinthians 7:10

THE GRAND CHARTER OF SALVATION

"God has condescended to become an author, and yet people will not read his writings. There are very few that ever gave this Book of God, the grand charter of salvation, one fair reading through."

- George Whitefield (1714-1770) Church of England Evangelist

SEEN THE SALVATION OF THE LORD

"He has remembered His lovingkindness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God."

- Psalm 98:3

MAKE A PURCHASE OF SALVATION

"See that you buy the field where the Pearl is; sell all, and make a purchase of salvation. Think it not easy: for it is a steep ascent to eternal glory: many are lying dead by the way, slain with security.

- Samuel Rutherford (1600-1661) Scottish Presbyterian Pastor, Theologian

THE HOPE OF SALVATION

"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.  But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ"

- 1 Thessalonians 5:2-9

FROM HIM COMES MY SALVATION

"For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation."

- Psalm 62:1

TO BE ASSURED OF YOUR SALVATION

"To be assured of our salvation is no arrogant stoutness. It is faith. It is devotion. It is not presumption. It is God's promise."

- Augustine of Hippo (354-430) Bishop, Theologian and Philosopher

THE GOSPEL OF YOUR SALVATION

"In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit."

- Ephesians 1:13

MY SALVATION TO ALL GENERATIONS

"For the moth will eat them up like a garment, and the worm will eat them like wool, but my righteousness will be forever, and my salvation to all generations.”

- Isaiah 51:8

THE SALVATION OF YOUR SOULS

“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”

- 1 Peter 1:8-9

2. WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?

SIRS, WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

- Acts 16:30-31

BY WHICH A MAN MUST BE SAVED

"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

- Acts 2:38

FOR BY GRACE YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

- Ephesians 2:8-9

EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED

“For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

- Romans 10:13

WE PREACH A GOSPEL THAT SAVES

"We give ourselves to prayer. We preach a Gospel that saves to the uttermost, and witness to its power. We do not argue about worldliness; we witness. We do not discuss philosophy; we preach the Gospel. We do not speculate about the destiny of sinners; we pluck them as brands from the burning. We ask no man's patronage. We beg no man's money. We fear no man's frown. Let no man join us who is afraid, and we want none but those who are saved, sanctified and aflame with the fire of the Holy Ghost.”

- Samuel Chadwick (1860-1932) Wesleyan Methodist Minister

IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH, YOU WILL BE SAVED

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

- Romans 10:9

HE WILL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS

"But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

- Matthew 1:20-23

THAT THE WORLD MIGHT BE SAVED THROUGH HIM

"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him."

- John 3:16

WHOEVER HEARS MY WORD AND BELIEVES HIM WHO SENT ME

"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life."

- John 5:24

IF YOU CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

- Romans 10:9-10

THE FREE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

-  Romans 6:23

THE GOSPEL IS THE POWER OF SALVATION

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."

- Romans 1:16

FOR BY GRACE YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."

- Ephesians 2:8-9

THROUGH THE REDEMPTION THAT IN CHRIST JESUS

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

- Romans 3:23-24

SEALED WITH THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

"In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory."

Ephesians 1:13–14

TO SAVE THOSE WHO ARE EAGERLY WAITING FOR HIM

- 1 Corinthians 10:33

TO SEEK AND SAVE THE LOST

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

- Luke 19:10

WHAT CAN SAVE YOU?

"When old companions, old lusts, and sins crowd in upon you, and when you feel that you are ready to sink, what can save you, sinking sinner? This alone - I have a high priest in heaven, and he can support in the hour of affliction. This alone can give you peace - I have a high priest in heaven. When you are dying - when friends can do you no good - when sins rise up like s

HE SAVED US

"For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.  3:4-6 “But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior”.

UNLESS A MAN IS BORN AGAIN

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

- John 3:3–6

3. WhAT IS ChristianITY?

IF BIBLE CHRISTIANITY IS TO SURVIVE THE PRESENT WORLD UPHEAVAL

"If Bible Christianity is to survive the present world upheaval, we shall need to have a fresh revelation of the greatness and the beauty of Jesus.... He alone can raise our cold hearts to rapture and restore again the art of true worship."

- A. W. Tozer (1897-1963) American Pastor and Teacher

THE CLAIM OF CHRISTIANITY

"Perfect correspondence," according to Mr. Herbert Spencer, would be "perfect Life." To abolish Death, therefore, all that would be necessary would be to abolish Imperfection. But it is the claim of Christianity that it can abolish Death. And it is significant to notice that it does so meeting this very demand of science--it abolishes imperfection.'"

- Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Evangelist, Biologist

THE FOUNDATION STONES OF CHRISTIANITY

"The resurrection of Christ is one of the foundation stones of Christianity. It was the seal of the great work that He came on earth to do. It was the crowning proof that the ransom He paid for sinners was accepted, the atonement for sin accomplished, the head of him who had the power of death bruised, and the victory won."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

AS THE VEIL IS LIFTED BY CHRISTIANITY

"The work begun by Nature is finished by the Supernatural--as we are wont to call the higher natural. And as the veil is lifted by Christianity it strikes men dumb with wonder. For the goal of Evolution is Jesus Christ."

- Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Evangelist, Biologist

THERE IS A WORLDLY KIND OF CHRISTIANITY

"There is a common, worldly kind of Christianity in this day, which many have, and think they have enough - a cheap Christianity which offends nobody, and requires no sacrifice - which costs nothing, and is worth nothing."

- J. C. Ryle (1816-1900) English Anglican Bishop

CHRISTIANITY REMOVES THE ATTRACTION OF THE EARTH

THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF CHRISTIANITY

"The most important aspect of Christianity is not the work we do, but the relationship we maintain (with God) and the surrounding influence and qualities produced by that relationship. That is all God asks us to give our attention to, and it is the one thing that is continually under attack."

- Oswald Chambers (1874–1917) Scottish Evangelist and Teacher

HOW WELL A PERSON UNDERSTANDS CHRISTIANITY

"If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God’s child, and having God as his Father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means that he does not understand Christianity very well at all. For everything that Christ taught, everything that makes the New Testament new and better than the Old, everything that is distinctively Christian, is summed up in the knowledge of the Fatherhood of God the Father."

J. I. Packer (1926-2020) English Evangelical Theologian

THE WHOLE HISTORICAL CHRISTIANITY

"On what does the Christian argument for Immortality really rest? It stands upon the pedestal on which the theologian rests the whole of historical Christianity--the Resurrection of Jesus Christ."

- Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Evangelist, Biologist

HOW WELL A PERSON UNDERSTANDS CHRISTIANITY

"If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God’s child, and having God as his Father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means that he does not understand Christianity very well at all. CHRISTIANITY HELPS US FACE THE MUSIC

Christianity helps us face the music even when we don't like the tune."

- Phillips Brooks (1835-1893) American Episcopal Clergyman

HALFHEARTED CHRISTIANITY WILL ONLY DISHONOR GOD

"If you are Christians, be consistent. Be Christians out and out; Christians every hour, in every part. Beware of halfhearted discipleship, of compromise with evil, of conformity to the world, of trying to serve two masters – to walk in two ways, the narrow and the broad, at once. It will not do. Halfhearted Christianity will only dishonor God, while it makes you miserable.”

- Horatius Bonar (1808- 1889) Scottish Minister and Hymn Writer

AS THE VEIL IS LIFTED BY CHRISTIANITY

"The work begun by Nature is finished by the Supernatural--as we are wont to call the higher natural. And as the veil is lifted by Christianity it strikes men dumb with wonder. For the goal of Evolution is Jesus Christ."

- Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Evangelist, Biologist

UNWILLING TO FACE THE STORMS A SOFT AND SHELTERED CHRISTIANITY

"A soft and sheltered Christianity, afraid to be lean and lone, unwilling to face the storms and brave the heights, will end up fat and foul in the cages of conformity."

- D. L. Moody (1837-1899) American Evangelist, Teacher and Preacher

CHRISTIANITY HAS STAYED STABLE

"Christianity has stayed stable, as it must do. The doctrines don't change. The understanding of what it means to walk with God doesn't change. The reality of worship doesn't change, not at heart, anyway. So Christianity appears to be stuck."

- J. I. Packer (1926-2020) Canadian Evangelical Theologian

CHRISTIANITY WITHOUT CHRIST

"I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost; Christianity without Christ; forgiveness without repentance; salvation without regeneration; politics without God; and Heaven without Hell."

BE ASSURED THAT CHRISTIANITY

CHRISTIANITY TEACHETH ME THAT

"Christianity teacheth me that what I charitably give alive, I carry with me dead; and experience teacheth me that what I leave behind, I lose. I will carry that treasure with me by giving it, which the worldling loseth by keeping it; so, while his corpse shall carry nothing but a winding cloth to his grave, I shall be richer under the earth than I was above it."

- Arthur Penrhyn Stanley 1815–1881) English Anglican Priest and Ecclesiastical Historian

THE GOSPEL DOES NOT DEFENDING

"The Gospel does not need defending. If Jesus Christ is not alive and cannot fight His own battles, then Christianity is in a bad state. But He is alive and we have only to preach His gospel in all its simplicity, and the power that goes with it will be evidence of its divinity."

-  Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher and Author

4. Who is a Christian?

CHRISTIANS DO NOT PRACTICALL REMEMBER

"Christians do not practically remember that while we are saved by grace, altogether by grace, so that in the matter of salvation works are altogether excluded; yet that so far as the rewards of grace are concerned, in the world to come, there is an intimate connection between the life of the Christian here and the enjoyment and the glory in the day of Christ's appearing."

- George Mueller 1805-1898) English Evangelist and Helper of Orphans

- John Bunyan (1628-1688) English Minister Writer

THE HAPPIEST OF ALL CHRISTIANS

"I believe that the happiest of all Christians and the truest of Christians are those who never dare to doubt God, but take His Word simply as it stands, and believe it, and ask no questions, just feeling assured that if God has said it, it will be so."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher and Author

FAITH UPHOLDS A CHRISTIAN UNDER ALL TRIALS

"Faith upholds a Christian under all trials, by assuring him that every painful dispensation is under the direction of his Lord; that chastisements are a token of His love; that the season, measure, and continuance of his sufferings, are appointed by Infinite Wisdom, and designed to work for his everlasting good; and that grace and strength shall be afforded him, according to his need."

- John Newton (1725-1790) Slave Trader Captain Turned Christian

 A CHRISTIAN SHOULD NEVER WORRY

"The Christian should never worry about tomorrow or give sparingly because of a possible future need. Only the present moment is ours to serve the Lord, and tomorrow may never come...Life is worth as much as it is spent for the Lord's service."

 - George Mueller 1805-1898) English evangelist and helper of Orphans

THE LIFE OF A CHRISTIAN HERE

"Christians do not practically remember that while we are saved by grace, altogether by grace, so that in the matter of salvation works are altogether excluded; yet that so far as the rewards of grace are concerned, in the world to come, there is an intimate connection between the life of the Christian here and the enjoyment and the glory in the day of Christ's appearing."

WHEN CHRISTIANS FIND THEMSELVES EXPOSED TO TEMPTATION

“When Christians find themselves exposed to temptation they should pray to God to uphold them, and when they are tempted they should not be discouraged. It is not a sin to be tempted; the sin is to fall into temptation.”

- D. L. Moody (1837-1899) American Evangelist, Teacher and Preacher

IF GOD IS SPENDING WORK ON A CHRISTIAN

“If God is spending work upon a Christian, let him be still and know that it is God. And if he wants work, he will find it there–in the being still.”

– Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Evangelist, Biologist

IF YOU DISLIKE ANY BROTHER CHRISTIAN

"Earnest intercession will be sure to bring love with it. I do not believe you can hate a man for whom you habitually pray. If you dislike any brother Christian, pray for him doubly, not only for his sake, but for your own, that you may be cured of prejudice and saved from all unkind feeling."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

IF YOU READ HISTORY YOU WILL FIND

THE DUTY OF EVERY CHRISTIAN

"It is the duty of every Christian to be Christ to his neighbor."

- Martin Luther (1483-1546) German Priest, Theologian

I THINK CHRISTIANS SO OFTEN FAIL TO GET ANSWERS TO THEIR PRAYERS

"I think Christians fail so often to get answers to their prayers because they do not wait long enough on God. They just drop down and say a few words, and then jump up and forget it and expect God to answer them. Such praying always reminds me of the small boy ringing his neighbor's door-bell, and then running away as fast as he can go."

- E.M. Bounds (1835-1913) American Minister, Author, and Attorney

THESE THINGS SHOW THAT CHRISTIANS HAVE GOT FAR FROM GOD

– Charles G. Finney (1792-1875) (1792-1875) American Presbyterian Minister

IT GIVES STABILITY TO THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

"Hope is called the anchor of the soul (Hebrews 6:19), because it gives stability to the Christian life. But hope is not simply a 'wish' (I wish that such-and-such would take place); rather, it is that which latches on to the certainty of the promises of the future that God has made."

- R. C. Sproul (1939-2017) American Reformed Theologian

IF SATAN CAME TO CHRIST, HE WILL ALSO COME TO CHRISTIANS

"We must not count temptation a strange thing. "The disciple is not greater than his master, nor the servant than his lord." If Satan came to Christ, he will also come to Christians."

- J. C. Ryle (1816-1900) English Anglican Bishop

SOME CHRISTIANS TRY TO GO TO HEAVEN ALONE

"Some Christians try to go to heaven alone, in solitude. But believers are not compared to bears or lions or other animals that wander alone. Those who belong to Christ are sheep in this respect, that they love to get together. Sheep go in flocks, and so do God's people."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

TOO MANY CHRISTIANS BECOME BITTER

"Too many Christians become bitter and angry in the conflict. If we descend into hatefulness, we have already lost the battle. We must cooperate with God in turning what was meant for evil into a greater good within us. This is why we bless those who would curse us: It is not only for their sakes but to preserve our own soul from its natural response toward hatred"

- Francois Fenelon (1651-1715) French Catholic Archbishop

THERE IS A WORLDLY KIND OF CHRISTIANITY

"There is a common, worldly kind of Christianity in this day, which many have, and think they have enough - a cheap Christianity which offends nobody, and requires no sacrifice - which costs nothing, and is worth nothing."

MEDITATION IS THE TOUCHSTONE OF THE CHRISTIAN

"Meditation doth discriminate and characterise a man; by this he may take a measure of his heart, whether it be good or bad; let me allude to that; "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." Proverbs 23:7. As the meditation is, such is the man. Meditation is the touchstone of a Christian; it shows what metal he is made of. It is a spiritual index; the index shows what is in the book, so meditation shows what is in the heart."

- Thomas Watson (1620-1686) Puritan Preacher

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS VERY MUCH LIKE

"The Christian life is very much like climbing a hill of ice. You cannot slide up. You have to cut every step with an ice axe. Only with incessant labor in cutting and chipping can you make any progress. If you want to know how to backslide, leave off going forward. Cease going upward and you will go downward of necessity. You can never stand still."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

LIVING THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

"Spend the time you have spent in sighing for fruits in fulfilling the conditions of their growth. The fruits will come, must come... About every other method of living the Christian life there is an uncertainty. About every other method of acquiring the Christian experiences there is a "perhaps." But in so far as this method is the way of nature, it cannot fail."

- Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Evangelist, Biologist

THE TEST OF CHRISTIAN CHARACTER

"The test of Christian character should be that a man is a joy-bearing agent to the world."

- Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) American Clergyman and Scholar

IN THE CHRISTIAN'S JOURNEY THROUGH THIS LIFE

"Nothing whatever, whether great or small, can happen to a believer, without God's ordering and permission. There is no such thing as "chance," "luck" or "accident" in the Christian's journey through this world. All is arranged and appointed by God. And all things are "working together" for the believer's good."

- J. C. Ryle (1816-1900) English Anglican Bishop

WHEN A CHRISTIAN SHUNS FELLOWSHIP

"When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy."

- Corrie ten Boom (1892-1983) Holocaust Survivor Christian Writer

TO PRESENT THE CHRISTIAN FAITH

"Our business is to present the Christian faith clothed in modern terms, not to propagate modern thought clothed in Christian terms... Confusion here is fatal."

- J. I. Packer (1926-2020) English Theologian, Cleric

EVERY CHRISTIAN HAS A CHOICE

"Every Christian has a choice between being humble or being humbled."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

NO MAN EVER REPENTED OF BEING A CHRISTIAN

"There is one single fact which we may oppose to all the wit and argument of infidelity, namely, that no man ever repented of being a Christian on his death-bed."

- Hannah More (1745-1833) English Religious Writer

BOLDNESS ENABLES CHRISTIANS TO FORSAKE ALL

"There is a false boldness for Christ that only comes from pride. A man may rashly expose himself to the world's dislike and even deliberately provoke its displeasure, and yet do so out of pride. . . .True boldness for Christ transcends all, it is indifferent to the displeasure of either friends or foes. Boldness enables Christians to forsake all rather than Christ, and to prefer to offend all rather than to offend Him."

- Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) American Revivalist

THE CHRISTIAN IS NOT OBEDIENT UNLESS

CHRISTIANS ARE IN TROUBLE ABOUT TOMORROW

"I find that many Christians are in trouble about the future; they think they will not have grace enough to die by. It is much more important that we should have grace enough to live by. It seems to me that death is of very little importance in the meantime. When the dying hour comes, there will be dying grace; but you do not require dying grace to live by."

- D. L. Moody (1837-1899) American Evangelist, Teacher and Preacher

THE FOUNDATION OF TRUE HOLINESS

"The foundation of true holiness and true Christian worship is the doctrine of the gospel, what we are to believe. So when Christian doctrine is neglected, forsaken, or corrupted, true holiness and worship will also be neglected, forsaken, and corrupted."

- John Owen (1616-1683) English Nonconformist Church Leader

THE ONE CONCERN OF THE DEVIL IS TO KEEP CHRISTIANS FROM PRAYING

"The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, and prayer-less religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray."

- Samuel Chadwick (1860-1932) Wesleyan Methodist Minister

BEND BENEATH THE WEIGHT OF BURDEN

- Hannah Whitall Smith (1832-1911) American Evangelist and Reformer

DO THEY PRESS FORWARD?

"The most vital question to ask about all who claim to be Christian is this: Have they a soul thirst for God? Do they long for this? Is there something about them that tells you that they are always waiting for His next manifestation of Himself? Is their life centred on Him? Can they say with Paul that they forget everything in the past? Do they press forward more and more that they might know Him and that the knowledge might increase, until eventually beyond death and the grave they may bask eternally in 'the sunshine of His face?' That I might know him!"

- Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1891) British War Hero, Minister

“I never saw a useful Christian who was not a student of the Bible.”

— D. L. Moody (1837-1899) American Evangelist, Teacher and Preacher

TO LIVE AS A CHRISTIAN MAN

"A man may be outwardly successful all his life long, and die hollow and worthless as a puff-ball; and he may be externally defeated all his life long, and die in the royalty of a kingdom established within him.  A man’s true estate of power and riches, is to be in himself; not in his dwelling, or position, or external relations, but in his own essential character.  That is the realm in which he is to live, if he is to live as a Christian man."

- Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) American Clergyman and Scholar

“Your life as a Christian should make non believers question their disbelief in God.”

- Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) German Christian Executed by Nazis

IF HE IS TO LIVE AS A CHRISTIAN MAN

"A man may be outwardly successful all his life long, and die hollow and worthless as a puff-ball; and he may be externally defeated all his life long, and die in the royalty of a kingdom established within him.  A man’s true estate of power and riches, is to be in himself; not in his dwelling, or position, or external relations, but in his own essential character.  That is the realm in which he is to live, if he is to live as a Christian man."

WHEN A CHRISTIAN SHUNS FELLOWSHIP WITH OTEHR CHRISTIANS

"When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy."

- Corrie Ten Boom (1892-1983) Holocaust Survivor, Christian Writer

ONE OF THE HARDEST STRUGGLE OF THE CHRISTAIN LIFE

"It is, perhaps, one of the hardest struggles of the Christian life to learn this sentence - "Not unto us, not unto us, but unto Thy name be glory."

- Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

GOD MEANS EVERY CHRISTIAN TO BE EFFECTIVE

"God means every Christian to be effective, to make a difference in the actual records and results of Christian work. God put each of us here to be a power. There is not one of us but is an essential wheel of the machinery and can accomplish all that God calls us to."

- A. B. Simpson (1843-1919) Canadian Preacher, Theologian

THE LEAST MATTER THAT A CHRISTIAN HAS TO BE ANXIOUS ABOUT

"Never fear dying, beloved. Dying is the last, but the least matter that a Christian has to be anxious about. Fear living - that is a hard battle to fight, a stern discipline to endure, a rough voyage to undergo."

 - Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892) English Baptist Preacher

THE WHOLE LIFE OF CHRISTIANS

"The whole life of Christians ought to be an exercise of piety, since they are called to sanctification. It is the office of the law to remind them of their duty and thereby to excite them to the pursuit of holiness and integrity. But when their consciences are solicitous how God may be propitiated, what answer they shall make, and on what they shall rest their confidence, if called to his tribunal, there must then be no consideration of the requisitions of the law, but Christ alone must be proposed for righteousness, who exceeds all the perfection of the law."

-  John Calvin (1509-1564) French Theologian

- Henry Drummond (1851-1897) Scottish Biologist, Evangelist and Writer

THE CHRISTIAN STUDENT

"If we are good students in the school of life, there is much that the years have to teach us. But the Christian is more than a student, more than a philosopher. He is a believer, and the object of his faith makes the difference, the mighty difference. Of all persons, the Christian should be best prepared for whatever the New Year brings. He has dealt with life at its source. In Christ, he has disposed of a thousand enemies that other men must face alone and unprepared. He can face his tomorrow cheerful and unafraid because yesterday he turned his feet into the ways of peace and today he lives in God. The man who has made God his dwelling place will always have a safe habitation."

- A. W. Tozer (1897-1963) American Christian Pastor, Author

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS STAMPED ALL THROUGH WITH IMPOSSIBILTY

The Christian life is stamped all through with impossibility.  Human nature cannot come anywhere near what Jesus Christ demands, and any rational being facing his demands honestly, says, “It can’t be done, apart from a miracle.”

- Oswald Chambers (1874–1917) Scottish Evangelist and Teacher

THE CHRISTIAN WITNESS

"The Christian witness through the centuries has been that "God so loved the world ... "; it remains for us to see that love in the light of God's infinitude. His love is measureless. It is more: it is boundless. It has no bounds because it is not a thing but a facet of the essential nature of God. A DEPRESSED CHRISTIAN

- Thomas Watson (1620-1686) Puritan Preacher

- David Livingstone (1813-1873) British Physician and Missionary

CHRISTIANS ESTIMATE DIFFICULTIES

"Many Christians estimate difficulties in the light of their own resources, and thus attempt little and often fail in the little they attempt. All God's giants have been weak men who did great things for God because they reckoned on His power and presence with them."

DISCOURSE ON THE ETERNITY OF GOD

"When we enjoy God, we enjoy Him in His eternity without any flux… Time is fluid, but eternity is stable; and after many ages, the joys will be as savory and satisfying as if they had been but that moment first tasted by our hungry appetites. When the glory of the Lord shall rise upon you, it shall be so far from ever setting, that after millions of years are expired, as numerous as the sands on the seashore, the sun, in the light of whose countenance you shall live, shall be as bright as at the first appearance; He will be so far from ceasing to flow, that He will flow as strong, as full, as at the first communication of Himself in glory to the creature. God is always vigorous and flourishing; a pure act of life, sparkling new and fresh rays of life and light to the creature, flourishing with a perpetual spring, and contenting the most capacious desire; forming your interest, pleasure, and satisfaction; with an infinite variety, without any change or succession; He will have variety to increase delights, and eternity to perpetuate them; this will be the fruit of the enjoyment of an infinite and eternal God."

- Stephen Charnock (1628-1680) English Puritan Clergyman

100 YEARS FROM NOW

"It will not make any difference friend

a hundred years from now,

if you live in a stately mansion or a floating river scow;

If the close you wear are tailor made,

or put together somehow,

if you eat big steaks, or beans and cakes

a hundred years from now,

It won't matter your bank account,

or what make of car you drive,

for the grave will claim all your riches and fame,

and the things for which you strive,

There's a deadline we all must meat,

and no one will show up late,

it won't matter all the places you've been,

each one will keep that date,

We will only have in eternity

what we give away on earth,

when we go to the grave

we can only save the things of eternal worth,

What matters friend the earthly gain

for which some men will bow,

for your destiny will be sealed you see,

a hundred years from now."

GO STAND BY THE GATES OF HELL

'Not called!' did you say? 'Not heard the call,' I think you should say. Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father's house and bid their brothers and sisters, and servants and masters not to come there. THE PARABLE OF THE RICH MAN IN HELL

"There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormentedAnd beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead."

Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."

How Can I Be Saved?

You’ve probably seen John 3:16 posted somewhere on a sign, written on a freeway overpass, at a concert, at a sporting event, or even read to you as a little child. This verse is a simple one. There are 20 monosyllables (single words) in the verse. The Gospel is meant to be simple for everyone!

Be sure of your Salvation. Right now, and pray this simple prayer with a sincere heart...

“Lord, forgive me for my sins. I confess that I am a sinner. Come into my heart and make me the person you created me to be. I receive your gift of pardon through Jesus dying for me on the cross to save me. – Amen”

It was once determined in a court of law that a pardon is only a pardon when it is accepted. There is a true story about a man that refused his pardon. A judge ruled that a pardon is only a pardon when it is accepted. When you prayed that prayer and accepted God’s pardon for your sins, you became a new creation in Christ.

The Bible teaches that you are saved by faith through Jesus. Grow in the Grace that was just given to you, seek God in His word (The Bible) and go out tell somebody!
